European Challenge Cup: Dragons v RCM Timisoara
Dragons (17) 59
Tries: Amos 2, Talbot-Davies 2, R Davies 2, Screech, J Williams, Fry Cons: Tovey 7
Timisoara Saracens (3) 3
Wales squad contender Hallam Amos scored two tries as Dragons crushed minnows Timisoara Saracens 59-3 in the European Challenge Cup.
His scorching solo opener was the first of nine home tries, with the bonus point coming seconds after half-time.
Will Talbot-Davies (2), Rhodri Davies (2), Matthew Screech, Jordan Williams and Ben Fry completed the rout.
Three tries came in as many minutes at one stage in the final quarter, while Jason Tovey converted seven.
Luke Samoa kicked an early penalty for the Romanians, who were out-classed by a much-changed home side after some early scrum pressure.
The experiment of playing man-of-the-match Amos at outside centre in a dead rubber lasted just 24 minutes, as he switched to wing when Dafydd Howells limped off.
There was a welcome reappearance for veteran Wales back Gavin Henson, side-lined by knee problems since 1 September, and his break put flanker Fry over from half-way as the flood-gates opened.
Once-capped Wales flanker Ollie Griffiths played 31 minutes after missing four matches because of a knee injury.
Neither side can qualify for the quarter-finals, with Dragons concluding their European campaign on Friday, 18 January at home to Clermont Auvergne.
Dragons three-quarter Hallam Amos told BBC Sport Wales:
“We didn’t start the best, but after that it was good fun and we’ve got some awesome strike runners, Jordan carved them open and then ‘Super Gav’ came on and showed us that class is permanent.
“(Departed coach) Bernard Jackman was a bit of a scapegoat, he’s fallen on the sword which was tough as he laid a lot of good ground-work. I wouldn’t say there’s been a massive change but James Chapron’s come in and simplified the defence.
“We’ll see (about Wales selection) because there’s a lot of strong players at the moment.”
