Motorists are being warned of a full closure of the M62 this morning.
Both carriageways are closed due to a “police incident.”
A police spokesman said: “Both carriageways between J23 (Outlane) and J22 (Rishworth). Ongoing Police incident. Please avoid the area.
“Motorway in both directions will remain closed whilst we deal with this incident. Diversions are in place and the closure is likely to be in place for several hours.”
Highways England said emergency services are working at the scene and gave the following diversion routes:
Eastbound traffic should follow the ‘Hollow Diamond’ diversion route.
Leave at J22 and turn left onto the A672 and proceed for approximately 5 miles to the A58 junction.
At this junction join the A58 (Halifax Road) and follow for 5 miles to the roundabout with the A6142.
Take the first exit onto the A6142 and continue for 500m to the junction with the A58.
At the junction, go straight forward onto the A58 (Rochdale Road) and follow for 5 miles to the A646.
Turn right and join the and follow the A646 for 1 mile until you come to the A629.
Turn right and join the A629 and follow for approximately 4 miles to the junction with the A643 (Ainley Top).
At this roundabout take the third exit onto the A629 and follow for 500m to the M62 at J24.
Re-join the M62 east.
Westbound traffic should follow the ‘Solid Square’ diversion route.
Which is the opposite of the eastbound diversion. Leaving at J24 and re-joining at J22.
Please be aware that a low bridge is on this diversion route at the A58 Sowerby Bridge.
A spokesperson said: “Drivers are advised to allow extra time to complete their journey plans if travelling in this area or to use an alternative route if possible.”
