Murder investigation launched and three arrested after man found dead in Bradford

LATEST: Three remain in custody in murder probe

Three men have been arrested and are being held in custody after a man died at a house in Bradford.

West Yorkshire Police have started a murder inquiry into the death of the man, understood to be in his 30s, at a property in Ashgrove, on the edge of Bradford city centre.

Officers were called by ambulance staff to an address mid-way along the row of Victorian three-storey terraced houses, which lie to the east of Easby Road and Morley Street, not far from Trinity Green campus, at about 1.30pm on Sunday.

Paramedics had made contact with police to say they were attempting resuscitation.

When officers attended the scene, they found a deceased male with facial injuries, a police spokesman said.

Police have since said the injuries appeared to be consistent with an assault.

Following inquiries at the scene, officers arrested two males aged 29 and 33 on suspicion of murder.

A third male, 34, was arrested from a separate address in the Great Horton area of Bradford a short time later, also on suspicion of murder. All three suspects remained in custody last night while inquiries continued.

This evening, two police officers remained at the scene, standing guard outside the property while scenes of crime forensic officers made a detailed search on the first floor of the house.

A number of them could be seen inside making their search. The lights were also on in the third floor, though it is not known if the forensics search extended to that floor.

The area comes under Bradford’s City ward. Councillor Aneela Ahmed (Labour, City) said: “We have been informed by the police of this distressing incident.

“The investigation is in the very early stages and we do not yet have any more information to give.

“I have not spoken to any relatives of the deceased and will let the police continue with their investigations. It is very distressing for everyone involved, from the family and relatives of the man who has been found to the emergency services who dealt with the incident.

“All three ward councillors want to extend their thoughts and prayers to everyone involved and to the man’s family.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called by ambulance staff to an address in Ashgrove after they made contact to say they were attempting resuscitation.

“Officers attended and found a deceased male in his thirties with facial injuries which appeared to be consistent with an assault.

“Investigations into the man’s death are at an early stage and are being led by the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team.

“Anyone who may have information which may assist with the investigation is asked to contact the team on 101, quoting crime reference number 13170528561. Information can also be reported to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
