A 33-YEAR-OLD man is facing jail after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl.
The jury also found him guilty on one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act, clearing him of another allegation of the same offence.
During the trial, Waqar, who is married with children, was said to have pulled down the child’s trousers, touched her indecently, and showed her pornographic films.
Prosecutor Deborah Smithies told the jury that the abuse had begun two years ago when the girl was aged eight, with Waqar’s actions reported when she told her mother in September last year.
Recorder Rachael Harrison granted Waqar bail ahead of his sentencing on December 1.
Speaking after the verdict, a spokesman for the NSPCC said: “Waqar is clearly a danger to children, his obscene acts will have a lasting impact on his victim and she should be given every support to move forward with her life.
“Treatment must form part of his sentence to mitigate any risk Waqar poses when he is eventually released.”
“Any adults with concerns about a child can contact the confidential NSPCC Helpline on 0808 8005000, and children seeking advice and support can call Childline on 0800 1111.”
