WATCH: Shocking footage as London bus bursts into flames as screaming passengers run

A man on the scene desperately battled to put out the fire before the emergency services arrived.

A woman, named Anna, posted a video on Twitter from the scene and said she heard a bang and screams as people fled.

She said: “Idk (I don’t know) what happened but we only heard a loud bang and then screams and saw people running and then we looked outside and saw the bus on fire.”

The driver and passengers managed to escape without injury from the route 113 double decker bus.

The fire happened outside Finchley Road and Frognal station in the north-west of the capital.

London Fire Brigade said they sent two fire engines to the scene at Finchley Road at around 7:25pm and the incident had been dealt with 10 minutes later.

Officials are now working to establish the cause of the fire.

A Transport for London spokeswoman said: “There were no injuries sustained by the passengers or driver and investigations as to the cause of the incident are under way.”

The dramatic footage appears to show the fire to be billowing from the engine towards the rear of the vehicle.

It follows the evacuation of Oxford Circus Tube station on Friday after a train filled with smoke.

Transport for London confirmed the station had been closed while crews responded “to a fire alert”.
