Man and boy arrested on suspicion of murder after death of Sait Mboob, 18, are released on bail

A man and boy arrested in connection with the murder of Sait Mboob have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Sait Mboob, 18, died after being stabbed in a large scale fight on the Alexandra Park estate in Moss Side. Three others were also knifed.

It is not believed that talented footballer Sait, a business student from Openshaw, was involved in gangs and he may have been in the wrong place a the wrong time.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder on Friday.

It followed the arrest of a 17-year-old on suspicion of murder on Thursday. Both have now been released on bail.

GMP has acknowledged they are investigating whether his attackers were involved in ‘street criminality’.

Police were called shortly before 8.40pm on Tuesday to reports of a fight on Crosshill Road.

When officers arrived they discovered four people with stab wounds, and they were taken to hospital.

Sait died shortly afterwards. A Home Office post mortem concluded that he died from stab wounds.

A 17 and an 18-year-old were later released from hospital. Another 17 year-old remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police, who have said they are ‘exploring all avenues’ in their enquiry, have appealed for help from the public.

Supt Dave Peter from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “We are exploring all avenues and part of our enquiry is to determine what the motive was.

“We need your help to do this. Were you in the area at the time of the attack and saw something that might be relevant? Do you know who was involved?

“I urge you to speak to police, as you might be able to help us to get justice for his family.”
