BLAZE: 70 fire fighters are on the scene tackling the flames

The fire has completely gutted a shop in Golders Green, west London, with dozens of fire crew battling to bring it under control. 

Around 25 were evacuated and five people were rescued at about 7.30am this morning, a spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said. 

Five people, including children, were rescued from a upper window of the shop in Princess Parade, off Golders Green Road. 

Nail biting footage show fire fighters desperately scrambling up a ladder to rescue the children from the window. 

The road is in lockdown as dramatic pictures show thick black plumes of smoke shooting into the sky.

EVACUATION: Around 25 people have been evacuated

A spokeswoman for LFB said: “Five people have been rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from a fire in a shop with flats above it on Princess Parade, off Golders Green Road, Golders Green.

“Three people have been rescued via a ladder, two were led to safety by crews and 25 people evacuated before the arrival of the Brigade.

“All of the ground floor of the shop and half of the second floor of the building is alight and over 70 firefighters and officers are currently tackling the fire.

“10 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from stations including Hendon, West Hampstead, Finchley and Mill Hill fire stations are at the scene.”

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
